Simple ways to practice presence
Meditation isn't about forcing your mind to be empty. It's a practice of noticing your thoughts and gently returning your attention. Meditation, prayer, and quiet reflection are all welcome here—choose what feels true to you.
01
How to begin meditation
Find a comfortable seat. Let your eyes close or soften. Notice your breath as it is. When a thought arrives—and it will—simply notice it, then gently return to your breath. That returning is the practice.
02
A one-minute mindful pause
Wherever you are, stop for one minute. Feel your feet on the ground. Take three slow breaths. Notice what you can hear, feel, and see right now.
03
Setting a morning intention
Before the day begins, sit quietly for a moment. Ask yourself how you want to show up today. Choose one word or phrase to carry with you, whether through prayer, reflection, or a simple breath.
04
Returning to the present
When your mind is racing ahead or looking back, bring it home. Name five things you can see. Feel the air on your skin. Come back to this moment, kindly and without judgment.
05
Reflecting and winding down
In the evening, let the day settle. Notice what went well and what you learned. Offer a quiet word of gratitude or prayer, and give yourself permission to rest.
Reflection prompts
- “What do I need in this moment?”
- “How do I want to show up today?”
- “What can I make space for?”
